Creating spring-themed illustrations for my portfolio 🌸
"From the egg, all life begins. I honor the mystery, the magic, the potential within".

Hi there, and a Happy May to you! 🌸
Just dropping in with a short catch-up to share a quick update on what I’ve been up to during these lovely Spring days. We’ve had a couple of scorchers here in SUNNY Edinburgh and even though it’s gotten a little too hot too quickly and kick-started my seasonal allergies, I must say the views have been glorious! So many flowers, beautiful lighting, and of course, little critters running around. Just the other day, I came across a sweet band of hares frolicking in the sunshine, hopping around and soaking up all the Vitamin D.
Portfolio Work
I’ve been keeping myself busy updating my portfolio and exploring some new ideas in my sketchbook. Through the years, I’ve noticed that this time of year brings with it a whole array of inspiration, a wave which I’ve learnt to ride while I can. Even though we’ve technically started Spring a while ago, I’ve illustrated a piece inspired by the goddess of Spring, Ostara. It’s a musical and magical moment as the landscape shifts from the coldness of the snow to the warmth and rebirth that this new season brings with it. It’s been so lovely exploring the elements of dance and musicality within illustration, it feels like it brings that sense of whimsy I strive for in my work!
You may remember me harping on about the colour studies I work on while at the studio and they’ve been more beneficial than I ever thought they would when I started this ongoing exercise! The process of adding colour to my work has gone from being one of the most dreaded to now being the most exciting part of my illustration process! I just love the atmosphere it creates, and the magic it adds to an image.
It’s becoming more and more evident that when used with purpose colour can change the whole dynamic of an image - I’ve avoided colour theory for so long because it always seemed so unnecessarily complicated, but after boarding with the Good Ship Illustration on their courses, I’ve been given a no nonsense breakdown of it all, and it couldn’t have been simpler! If you’d like to learn more about it, you can check out their free resource here: https://www.thegoodshipillustration.com/colour
I’ll be dropping in with some new work soon, but I shall now leave you to frolic in the sunshine ✨
